Several initiatives and efforts have sprung up in response to the novel Coronavirus. The impact of COVID-19 are undeniable and it is not surprising that governments, institutions, corporates and individuals are doing the best they can to understand the virus and cushion its effects. One of such initiatives is the folding@home project which is trying to understand the dynamics of COVID-19 proteins in a bid to find new therapeutic opportunities.

Folding@home is a distributed computing project for simulating protein dynamics, including the process of protein folding and the movements of proteins implicated in a variety of diseases. It brings together citizen scientists who volunteer to run simulations of protein dynamics on their personal computers.

Two blockchain brands – ColossusXT and Gath3r have decided to join the fight against COVID-19. Both companies created a Folding@home team and have launched a campaign to support its computational research.

The incentivize campaign will run from April until the end of June. Members of both communities are being called upon to participate. By the end of the campaign, the top 3 users with the most completed credits will be rewarded. The prize pool for the friendly competition is 1,000,000 COLX and 10,000 GTH. The prize pool will be shared on a 50%, 35% and 15% ratio between the 1st, 2nd and 3rd places, respectively.

To participate, a user needs to download the folding@home client from their site, and join the ColossusXT/Gath3r team with 260272 during the installation setup.
