Fruit syrup producer, Pölöskei, has joined the list of companies that are using TE-FOOD’s food traceability solution to keep tabs on the supply chain of food products. The move by the Hungarian fruit syrup producer is geared towards improving consumer transparency. By simply scanning tagged syrup products, consumers will be able to access important data pertaining to the origin of the products.

Pölöskei currently processes 2400 tonnes of fruit, has an array of 33 different products and sells in Hungary and four neighboring countries. The pilot implementation is being pioneered by TE-FOOD’s Hungarian partner, Laurel Ltd.

The current rollout which is already available in some retail outlets is only on two product categories – strawberry and raspberry syrups. The success of which may see a complete rollout across all 33 product categories.

To obtain data stored on the FoodChain, TE-FOOD’s blockchain ledger, consumers need to scan the QR code on the products. Consumers will be able to verify the status of a product whether it is valid or not. Other details such as the product name, production date and place, sensory examination, microbiologian test, analytical test, ingredients, and best-before dates can be viewed.

Speaking on the partnership, TE-FOOD said:

We believe this project shows that traceability becomes more and more important for any kind of food and beverage producer, as a fast-growing segment of consumers demand a sustainable and transparent food industry.
